House Hockey

‘House Hockey’

The idea is to have two teams consisting of 15 players plus 1 goalie, playing against each other in a mini league scenario.

The teams will be divided in to three lines. First line will play against the other team’s first line and second line against second line etc. First and Second line will play the off-side rule but the third line will not. The games will consist of one 20 min period, the clock will stop every two minutes for line changes and it will be a running clock once the puck drops.
If any penalties incur the referee will let the game go on but will speak to the player and explain to him the penalty if the player persists then he will be giving a penalty of missing his next line change ( another player can take his place). The coach will be responsible for implementing the penalty.
The idea is to get the game flowing as at this level most of the penalties will be accidental and we don’t want to stop and start the game.

The players involved in ‘House Hockey’ will be

1.Learn to play players with full kits.
2.Beginners with full kits that are too old to sign for their respective age group.
3.Registered under 10s
4.Registered under 12s at coaches discretion.

The first ‘House Hockey’ like all new ventures will probably have teething problems but we will learn from the experience and develop the program. ‘House Hockey’ will bring fun to the kids and at the same time give them experience on rules, coaching and team development while saving parents a lot of travelling expenses.
Hopefully ‘House Hockey’ will be a program where more boys and girls enjoy the experience of playing ice hockey and keep their interest in the sport for a longer period of time. The benefits are that coaches in the future will have more players for selection, managers will have more players to register for games and the Club as a whole will grow in developing kids at a young age which will pay dividends at a later stage both financially and sporting success.

We need volunteers to achieve this program and at this moment in time we have Duncan Speirs and Heather Snaddon willing to give their time and experience .If anybody else wants to be part of ‘House Hockey’ please contact myself, Duncan or Heather. We will need plenty of help and some of the jobs we have ( no pay packet included ) are bench coaches, bench assistants, referees, timekeepers, music djs, equipment organiser (old, new, trade) , sponsors etc etc.

‘House Hockey’ is based on the Canadian set up where many teams of all ages play at the local ice rink. The local ice rink then has only one team picked from the pool of players of the ‘House Hockey ‘leagues that travel and compete on a regional and national level.
